Dharmanagar Court Awards 12 Years RI to J&K Man in 260-kg Ganja Case

Agartala, Jul 8: A truck driver from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir, arrested in 2022 after 260 kg of concealed ganja was found in his vehicle at Churaibari Naka, was sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment by a Dharmanagar court on Tuesday.The Additional Sessions Judge Court No. 2, Dharmanagar, North District, convicted Manjoor Ahamed Chachi, son of Md. Jalal Uddin Chachi, a resident of Katyanwali in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. Along with the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1,50,000, in default of which Chachi will have to undergo an additional 6 months of rigorous imprisonment. He was convicted under section 20(B)(II)(C)/29 of the NDPS Act in connection with SPL (NDPS) 30/2022, arising out of Churaibari Police Station Case No. 02/2022, registered under section 20(b)(ii)(c) of the NDPS Act.
The case, according to the press release, dates back to the morning of 01.02.2022, when a special vehicle checking drive was underway at Churaibari Naka point. Police intercepted a truck and found 260 kg of dry ganja hidden inside the vehicle, and Chachi, who was driving the truck, was arrested on the spot.The investigation was carried out by Sub-Inspector Ajit Kanti Chakma, then posted at Churaibari Police Station and now serving as Inspector of Amtali Police Station under West District. He submitted the chargesheet against the accused on 31.07.2022. The trial court found the accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly.
