Mayor Calls for Collective Action to Protect Green Cover


Agartala, July 5: Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder on Sunday underscored the importance of collective responsibility in protecting the environment while participating in a mass tree-planting programme organised by the 4 Ramnagar Sporting Club. Joining club president Babul Roy, secretary Chandan Chanda and other members in planting saplings, the Mayor said tree plantation should not end with planting alone. He stressed that every citizen must take responsibility for nurturing and protecting the saplings to ensure their healthy growth and long-term survival.

Addressing the gathering, Majumder praised the enthusiastic participation of women in the plantation drive, describing their spontaneous involvement as a shining example of community awareness and civic responsibility. He said such active public participation is essential for the success of environmental conservation initiatives.The Mayor highlighted that both the Central Government and the Tripura Government are working consistently to safeguard the environment through various green initiatives.

He noted that social organisations, clubs and local communities are playing a significant role in complementing these efforts by organising plantation drives and spreading environmental awareness. Referring to the nationwide "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, Majumder said large-scale tree plantation programmes are being conducted across the country to strengthen green cover and inspire people to contribute towards a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
