Isha Koppikar Slams Bollywood’s Age Bias Against Women

Actor Isha Koppikar has spoken out against what she describes as deep-rooted age-based double standards in the film industry, particularly in Bollywood. In a recent Instagram video, the actress highlighted how aging is perceived differently for men and women in cinema and society.
She said it is common for older male actors to be celebrated for their experience and frequently cast in romantic roles opposite much younger actresses. In contrast, women face criticism for aging and are often told to conform to restrictive expectations about how they should look or behave with age.
Quoting her views, Koppikar said, “A man's aging is called experience, and a woman's aging is called a problem,” pointing out the imbalance in how aging is interpreted in the industry.
She further emphasized that women are often judged for embracing their individuality as they grow older. According to her, maturity should be seen as strength rather than decline, adding that a woman’s confidence and identity often deepen with time rather than diminish.
Her remarks have reignited discussion around gender bias and representation in Bollywood, particularly regarding casting choices and on-screen age dynamics.
