Venezuela has declared seven days of national mourning after the death toll from the powerful earthquakes that struck the country on June 24 climbed to 2,595.
Acting President Delcy Rodríguez announced the mourning period to honour those who lost their lives in the disaster, which also left more than 12,000 people injured.
The twin earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.5 and 7.2, struck north of the capital, Caracas, causing widespread destruction across several regions. Authorities said at least 189 buildings were destroyed, while tens of thousands of people remain missing.
Search and rescue operations are continuing as emergency teams work to locate survivors trapped under debris and deliver aid to affected communities. Officials warned that the number of casualties could rise further as rescue efforts continue in the worst-hit areas.
