Minister Tinku Roy Unveils VB-GRAM G, Hikes Rural Wage to Rs300

Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education, and Labour Tinku Roy on Thursday launched the Centre's new rural employment programme, Developed India–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) or VB-GRAM G, while announcing a major enhancement in benefits for rural workers across the state.
Speaking at the district-level inauguration programme held at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala, Roy announced that the minimum daily wage under the scheme has been increased from Rs 241 to Rs 300, while the guaranteed employment period has been extended from 100 days to 125 days annually. The move, he said, will provide rural families with additional income opportunities and strengthen their economic security.
Describing VB-GRAM G as a transformative initiative of the Central Government, Roy said the scheme, which replaces the nearly two-decade-old Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), is aimed at accelerating rural development, creating sustainable livelihoods and safeguarding workers' rights.
The minister highlighted that registered job card holders who are not provided employment within 15 days of applying will be entitled to an unemployment allowance. He also said wages will be transferred directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts through a digitally monitored system to ensure timely payments, transparency and curb corruption.
Roy said the new scheme reflects the government's commitment to empowering rural communities by improving infrastructure, ensuring livelihood security and making welfare delivery more efficient and accountable.
Acting Chairperson of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad Biswajit Shil, District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar, along with senior government officials, attended the inaugural programme.
