Eurobank has launched a UPI-based remittance service for cross-border money transfers from Greece to India, marking a significant step in the global expansion of India's digital payment ecosystem. The service has been introduced in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) International Payments Limited (NIPL).
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal welcomed the launch, describing it as an important milestone in the international adoption of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). He said the new service will enable eligible customers in Greece to transfer money to India instantly, securely, and at a fraction of the cost of conventional remittance methods.
The minister added that the growing global acceptance of UPI reflects confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of developing technology-driven digital solutions that strengthen international partnerships and promote shared growth.
During his visit to Greece, Goyal also met Eurobank Chief Executive Officer Fokion Karavias. The two discussed ways to deepen the India-Greece economic partnership, encourage greater Greek investment in India, and explore opportunities for collaboration in manufacturing and infrastructure development in Greece.
