Mayor Pushes Drainage Upgrade, Vendor Rehabilitation

Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder on Tuesday conducted an on-site inspection of the Post Office Chawmuhani area, reaffirming the Agartala Municipal Corporation's commitment to modernising the city's drainage infrastructure while ensuring smooth traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

Accompanied by Ward No. 20 Corporator Ratna Dutta, officials of the Public Works Department (PWD), and members of the municipal task force, the Mayor reviewed the progress of ongoing drainage repair works and inspected measures being taken to keep footpaths free from encroachments for unhindered public movement.

During the inspection, Dipak Majumder stressed the need for a robust and modern drainage network to address waterlogging and improve the city's civic infrastructure. He said the corporation is working on a comprehensive plan to enhance urban amenities while ensuring that development projects are carried out efficiently.

Addressing concerns over the recent eviction drive in the area, the Mayor said the civic body is adopting a compassionate approach towards affected pavement vendors. He assured that the Agartala Municipal Corporation is making efforts to relocate and rehabilitate the displaced traders so that their livelihoods are protected while public spaces are restored for the benefit of residents.

The inspection forms part of the corporation's broader initiative to upgrade urban infrastructure and create a cleaner, safer and more accessible Agartala.
