NIA Files Chargesheet Against 11 for Alleged Bangladeshi Mujahideen Network Expansion Across Northeast

The National Investigation Agency filed a chargesheet on Friday against 11 persons for allegedly conspiring to expand the network of banned Bangladeshi militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh across Assam, Tripura, West Bengal and other northeastern states, placing the document before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati.
The chargesheet was filed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) 1967.
According to the NIA, the accused were linked to a front organisation called Imam Mahmud's Kafila (IMK), set up by senior JMB leader Imam Mahmud Habibullah to expand the banned outfit's foothold in India.
The agency alleged that IMK was used to spread JMB's extremist ideology, radicalise vulnerable youth, build its network and carry out anti-India propaganda across northeastern states and West Bengal.
Investigations revealed that the accused organised covert meetings, distributed terrorist literature and used digital platforms to recruit members, while allegedly fostering allegiance to IMK and JMB leadership under the guise of religious ideology.
Among those named in the chargesheet, Nasimuddin has been identified as the head of IMK operations in Assam, while Jagir Mia has been accused of overseeing the organisation's activities in Tripura.
During searches, the NIA recovered documents, electronic devices and digital data, which the agency said pointed to the accused's involvement in terrorist conspiracy, recruitment and extremist activities.
The NIA said the case is part of its ongoing effort to dismantle active terror networks and prevent extremist outfits from spreading further across the country.
All allegations remain sub-judice. The court will determine the guilt or innocence of the accused based on evidence presented through the judicial process.
