World leaders have expressed solidarity with Venezuela and offered assistance following devastating earthquakes that have claimed at least 164 lives and injured more than 971 people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences to the government and people of Venezuela, particularly the families who lost their loved ones. In a social media post, he wished a speedy recovery to those injured and reaffirmed India's support, assuring all possible assistance to those affected by the disaster.
US President Donald Trump said Washington stands ready to support Venezuela and has directed government agencies to prepare for a rapid response and provide assistance as needed.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez also extended support to Venezuela in the wake of the earthquakes. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people and announced that officials had been instructed to prepare humanitarian aid for the South American nation.
El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele stated that 300 rescuers and paramedics, along with 50 tonnes of equipment, medicines and essential supplies, are ready to be deployed to Caracas to assist relief operations.
Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi, and the Chilean government also expressed condolences over the loss of life and pledged support for Venezuela.
Earlier, Venezuela's acting president declared a state of emergency after powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck the country. Among the strongest earthquakes to hit Venezuela in more than a century, the tremors were felt across the region. Authorities have warned that the death toll could rise further as rescue and assessment operations continue.
