Minister Ratan Lal Nath Promotes Tripura’s Queen Pineapple Ahead of Global Festival

In a unique initiative to promote Tripura’s globally acclaimed GI-tagged Queen Pineapple, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday presented the state’s signature fruit to an IndiGo pilot, co-pilot and cabin crew while travelling from Agartala to New Delhi.
The gesture, made ahead of the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026, was aimed at showcasing one of the state's most celebrated agricultural products and highlighting the contribution of pineapple growers. The minister described the gift as a symbol of pride, gratitude and goodwill towards the farmers whose dedication has earned Tripura’s Queen Pineapple national and international recognition.
Sharing details of the initiative, Nath said the Queen Pineapple is not merely a fruit but a representation of Tripura’s rich agricultural heritage, fertile soil and hardworking farming community. He stressed that the state government is committed to expanding production, strengthening processing infrastructure and creating new export opportunities for the premium fruit.
“Queen Pineapple is more than just a fruit—it reflects the dedication of our farmers, the richness of Tripura’s soil and the growing pride of our state,” the minister said, adding that efforts are underway to take the fruit to larger national and international markets.
The promotion comes in the run-up to the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026, scheduled to be held at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi from June 27 to June 29. The three-day event is expected to bring together farmers, exporters, entrepreneurs, policymakers and industry experts to explore new business opportunities and strengthen market linkages.
The festival will feature exhibitions, trade forums, buyer-seller meets and cultural programmes designed to showcase the unique qualities of Tripura’s Queen Pineapple and attract investment in the state's horticulture sector.
Recognised with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag and designated as Tripura’s state fruit, the Queen Pineapple is renowned for its exceptional sweetness, rich aroma and low fibre content. Organisers hope the festival will further enhance its brand value, boost exports and improve the livelihoods of thousands of farmers associated with pineapple cultivation across the state.
With promotional efforts gaining momentum, the state government is optimistic that the festival will help establish Tripura as a leading hub for premium pineapple production and open new avenues for growth in the agricultural sector.
