CM Manik Saha Reviews Ambitious Water Grid Project to Ensure Safe Drinking Water

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday reviewed the proposed Tripura Water Grid project, a major initiative aimed at providing safe and treated drinking water across the state by utilizing surface water from its river systems and reducing dependence on iron-contaminated groundwater.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister assessed the progress of the project, which seeks to harness water from Tripura’s 12 rivers and distribute it through an integrated network after proper treatment. Officials informed the meeting that the first phase of the project is planned to source water from the Gomati River and supply it to Udaipur, Bishramganj, Bishalgarh and Agartala.
Dr. Saha emphasized the need for a sustainable and long-term solution to the state's drinking water challenges, particularly the high iron content found in groundwater in several areas. He directed officials to expedite preparatory work and ensure that the project is implemented in a time-bound manner.
According to officials, the water grid will include modern treatment facilities and an extensive distribution system to provide potable water to urban and semi-urban regions. The initiative is expected to significantly improve water quality, enhance public health and strengthen the state's water security.
Technical assessments, feasibility studies and infrastructure planning for the first phase are currently underway. Once completed, the Tripura Water Grid is expected to emerge as a transformative infrastructure project, ensuring reliable access to clean drinking water for thousands of residents across the state.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government's commitment to improving basic infrastructure and ensuring that every household has access to safe and quality drinking water.
