Heavy Rainfall in Arunachal Triggers Flood Alert in Assam

Heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Subansiri district has raised concerns over possible downstream flooding in several districts of Assam, prompting authorities to issue alerts and activate emergency preparedness measures.
According to meteorological reports, the Yazali area in Lower Subansiri recorded 72.8 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours. The intense rainfall has led to a sharp increase in river discharge and triggered flash floods in upper catchment areas.
The Assam Government has placed all concerned agencies on high alert as rising water levels are expected to affect downstream districts, including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, and Sonitpur. Officials have warned that a substantial increase in river flow and water velocity is likely, with the flood wave expected to move further downstream over the next one to two days.
Emergency response teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have been kept on standby. District administrations have also been directed to closely monitor vulnerable locations and take necessary precautionary measures to safeguard residents.
Authorities have advised people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, follow official advisories, and avoid entering inundated areas. Residents have also been cautioned against travelling by small boats, as river currents are expected to strengthen significantly in the coming days.
The situation is being closely monitored as officials assess the impact of the upstream rainfall on Assam's river systems and flood-prone regions.
