Minister Tinku Roy Leads Anti-Drug Drive in Agartala

Agartala, June 24: Reaffirming the state's commitment to combating substance abuse, Minister Tinku Roy on Wednesday led a large awareness rally in Agartala to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026. Roy, who holds the portfolios of Youth Affairs & Sports, Social Welfare & Social Education, and Labour, joined students, government officials and members of the public in the colourful procession along the city's Rajpath. The rally was jointly organised by the West Tripura district administration and the District Social Education Officer.
Addressing the significance of the occasion through a social media post, the minister urged citizens to take a collective oath to build a drug-free Tripura and strengthen the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The rally aimed to spread awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, particularly among young people, and encourage community participation in prevention efforts. Participants carried placards and banners conveying messages against drug addiction and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Highlighting the government's continued focus on youth welfare and social development, Roy stressed the importance of coordinated efforts by families, educational institutions, civil society and government agencies to eradicate the drug menace from society. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and local residents, reflecting growing public support for creating a safer and drug-free Tripura.
