Mild Quake Hits Goalpara


A mild earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale struck near Goalpara in Assam in the early hours of Tuesday, according to available reports.

The tremor was recorded at 1:57 a.m. IST at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres beneath the earth’s surface. Though minor in intensity, the quake was reportedly felt in parts of the district and nearby areas.

Officials said there were no immediate reports of casualties, injuries, or damage to property. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation, but the low magnitude of the earthquake indicates limited impact.

Assam, along with the rest of the Northeast, is located in one of India’s most seismically active regions and experiences frequent earthquakes due to ongoing tectonic activity.
