Agartala, June 23: A gruesome murder in Kathaltali of West Tripura district has sent shockwaves across the area after Samir Das, secretary of Tarun Sangha Club, was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified assailants in the early hours of Tuesday. According to police sources, the attack took place between 2:30 am and 3:00 am. Preliminary investigations suggest that two individuals were involved in the crime. One accused has been arrested, while police have launched an intensive search operation to apprehend the second suspect. Soon after receiving information about the incident, senior police officials rushed to the spot. A dog squad and a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) conducted a detailed examination of the crime scene and collected evidence. Security in the area has been tightened, with additional police personnel and CRPF forces deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.
Family members of the deceased alleged that the murder was the result of a long-standing personal rivalry. According to Das’s sister, he was returning home on his scooter after attending a social gathering when he was intercepted near a Kali temple. The attackers allegedly stopped his vehicle and repeatedly assaulted him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. He succumbed to his injuries before he could receive medical attention. Relatives further claimed that there had been previous disputes and threats involving the accused persons. However, police officials said all possible angles are being examined and the exact motive behind the murder will be established after a thorough investigation.
A senior police officer confirmed that one accused is in custody and that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspect. Investigators are also questioning local residents and eyewitnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the killing.
