US–Iran talks show progress in Switzerland, says JD Vance

Senior U.S. and Iranian delegations have held closed-door talks in Switzerland aimed at advancing negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme and addressing broader regional security concerns.
Speaking ahead of the discussions, U.S. Vice President JD Vance said the talks were making “encouraging progress” and expressed optimism that further diplomatic advances could be achieved.
The meetings are taking place at the Bürgenstock resort near Lake Lucerne in Switzerland. According to officials, the primary focus is Iran’s nuclear programme, though wider regional issues are also expected to feature in the discussions, including efforts to maintain a ceasefire involving Israel and Lebanon.
Vance said recent diplomatic efforts in the region had produced positive outcomes, while acknowledging that significant differences remain between the parties on how to achieve long-term stability. He also defended Washington’s role in de-escalation efforts and support for peace initiatives.
The talks come amid heightened international attention, with stakeholders watching closely for any signs of progress that could help reduce tensions between the United States and Iran and prevent further escalation in West Asia.
