Landslide Blocks National Highway 27 in Assam’s Dima Hasao After Heavy Rain
Jun 22, 2026
Continuous heavy rainfall triggered a major landslide in the Jatinga area of Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Sunday, bringing traffic on National Highway 27 to a complete standstill.
According to reports, a large portion of a hillside collapsed onto the highway between Jatinga and Harangajao, burying the road under mud, rocks, and debris. The incident caused a total disruption of vehicular movement along the crucial stretch.
Authorities have been alerted, and efforts to clear the debris are expected to begin as weather conditions permit. However, ongoing rain and unstable terrain in the region are likely to slow down restoration work.
National Highway 27 is a key route connecting parts of southern Assam through the hilly terrain of Dima Hasao, making the blockade a significant disruption for commuters and transport services.
