Sushanta Chowdhury Reviews Food Supply, Price Control Measures
Jun 22, 2026Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism, Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday chaired a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess the functioning of the Food Department and discuss measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and maintain price stability across the state.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary of the Food Department Shantanu, Finance Department Secretary Prashant Kumar Goyal, and Food Department Director Sumit Lodh, reflecting a coordinated effort among key departments to strengthen food security and consumer welfare.
During the meeting, Minister Chowdhury reviewed a range of operational and administrative issues concerning the Food Department. He emphasized the need for efficient coordination, transparency, and timely implementation of policies to ensure that essential commodities remain readily available to the public at reasonable prices.
Highlighting the government's commitment to safeguarding consumer interests, the minister stressed the importance of maintaining adequate stocks of food grains and other essential items under the Public Distribution System (PDS). He also directed officials to closely monitor market conditions and take proactive steps to prevent artificial shortages and unwarranted price increases.
Special focus was given to ensuring smooth distribution and supply-chain management during the monsoon season, when disruptions can affect the availability of essential goods. Officials discussed strategies to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and improve departmental efficiency to guarantee uninterrupted services to beneficiaries.
Reaffirming the state government's commitment to food security, Chowdhury said that ensuring the steady supply of essential commodities and protecting consumers from abnormal price fluctuations remain top priorities. The meeting underscored the government's continued efforts to reinforce the PDS network and enhance the overall effectiveness of the Food Department across Tripura.
