Minister Ratan Lal Nath Calls for Natural Farming Revolution

Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday urged farmers to embrace natural farming as a sustainable solution for protecting agricultural land, reducing production costs and ensuring long-term food security.
The minister was addressing a one-day district-level workshop on Natural Farming held at Madhumala S.B. School in K.K. Nagar, Bishalgarh, under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan initiative. The programme was attended by farmers, agricultural officials, experts and local representatives.
Speaking at the workshop, Nath highlighted the growing importance of eco-friendly agricultural practices and stressed that excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides can adversely affect soil fertility and environmental health. He said natural farming offers an effective alternative that helps restore soil quality while producing healthier crops.
The minister noted that the state government is actively promoting sustainable farming methods and creating awareness among cultivators about the benefits of natural farming. He encouraged farmers to adopt modern scientific techniques combined with traditional agricultural knowledge to improve productivity and protect natural resources.
Emphasising the need to safeguard agricultural land for future generations, Nath said the success of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan depends on the active participation of farmers and rural communities. He added that natural farming can play a key role in enhancing farmers’ incomes while reducing dependence on costly agricultural inputs.
Agriculture experts at the workshop conducted interactive sessions on natural farming techniques, soil management and organic alternatives to chemical-based cultivation. Farmers were also informed about various government initiatives and support mechanisms available for adopting sustainable agricultural practices.
The workshop formed part of the state government’s broader efforts to encourage environmentally responsible farming and strengthen Tripura’s agricultural sector through sustainable and farmer-friendly policies.
