Minister Sudhangshu Das Reviews Fisheries Projects, Pushes Self-Reliance

Minister for Scheduled Caste Welfare, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Sudhangshu Das on Friday reviewed the implementation of key fisheries projects and stressed the need to make Tripura self-reliant in fish production through strengthened aquaculture initiatives.
Chairing a state-level review meeting at the Fisheries Department Conference Hall in Gorkhabasti, Agartala, the minister assessed the progress of various schemes undertaken by the department for the 2026-27 financial year. The meeting was attended by the department's secretary, directors, and officials from the district, subdivision and state levels.
During the meeting, Das examined whether government fisheries programmes were being implemented effectively and whether benefits were reaching intended beneficiaries within the stipulated timeframe. He directed officials to closely monitor project execution and ensure that developmental initiatives are delivered efficiently at the grassroots level.
The minister also led detailed discussions on strategies to boost fish production and expand aquaculture activities across the state. Emphasising the government's commitment to achieving self-sufficiency in the fisheries sector, he called for coordinated efforts to strengthen infrastructure, improve productivity and support fish farmers.
Das urged officials to maintain transparency, accountability and dedication in carrying out their responsibilities. He said the fisheries sector has significant potential to generate employment and enhance rural livelihoods, adding that the government remains focused on accelerating growth in the sector through timely implementation of development projects.
