TSU Submits Six-Point Demand Charter to TTAADC Education Department

The Tribal Students' Union (TSU) submitted a six-point charter of demands to TTAADC Education Department Executive Member C.K. Jamatia on Thursday, calling for urgent teacher recruitment and the establishment of teacher training colleges in the autonomous council area.
The memorandum highlighted persistent problems in schools and higher education institutions under TTAADC, including the demand for immediate appointment of teachers to resolve the single-teacher crisis affecting most schools. TSU also sought a D.El.Ed and a B.Ed college within the council area, postgraduate courses in Kokborok, Bengali and English at Khumulwng Degree College, bus services on student routes, a hostel for Khumulwng college students and new colleges in Jampuijala and Mandai.
Speaking to reporters after the deputation, TSU central committee general secretary Sujit Tripura said, "TTAADC has a total of 1,633 schools under its administration, and most of these are run by a single teacher." He added that around 100 schools are in an extremely critical condition, according to information shared by the Education Department's Executive Member.
Tripura said many educated youths holding B.Ed and D.El.Ed degrees remain unemployed, and recruitment would simultaneously ease the teacher shortage and create job opportunities. He further said, "Setting up D.El.Ed and B.Ed colleges in TTAADC is now the need of the hour, as students currently have to go outside the state, particularly to West Bengal, for teacher training, which adds financial burden and other difficulties."
TSU leaders urged the Executive Member to take necessary steps for swift implementation of the demands.
