Ukraine has struck the Moscow Oil Refinery for the second time within a week, according to Russian officials, as part of a wider overnight drone offensive targeting multiple regions across Russia.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that several drones hit the refinery located on the southeastern outskirts of the capital. The attack comes just days after a previous strike on the same facility.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defenses intercepted and destroyed 555 Ukrainian drones across the country during the overnight assault. The ministry described it as one of the largest drone attacks on Russia so far this year.
The Russian Transport Ministry reported temporary flight suspensions at four Moscow airports following the attacks, causing significant disruption to air traffic in the capital region.
Russian state media also reported additional drone strikes in the Rostov region, suggesting a multi-front aerial operation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a social media post that the strikes were a “justified response” to Russia’s ongoing military actions.
The latest wave of attacks underscores the continued escalation of long-range drone warfare between the two countries, with energy infrastructure increasingly becoming a key target.
