Minister Ratan Lal Nath Leads Tripura’s Global Push for GI-Tagged Queen Pineapple

Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday led preparations for the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026, a major initiative aimed at taking the state’s world-famous GI-tagged ‘Queen’ pineapple to international markets and boosting income opportunities for farmers.
A high-level preparatory meeting was held at the State Secretariat under Nath’s chairmanship to review arrangements for the three-day festival, which will be held in New Delhi from June 27 to 29. The meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, ministers Sushanta Chowdhury, Shantana Chakma, Bikash Debbarma and Animesh Debbarma, along with the Chief Secretary and senior officials from various departments.
The festival, jointly organised by central and state government agencies, is expected to serve as a key platform for promoting Tripura’s premium pineapple variety among domestic and international buyers. It will showcase the state’s GI-tagged produce, highlight modern cultivation techniques, and facilitate interactions between farmers, exporters, traders and potential investors.
Addressing the meeting, Ratan Lal Nath said the festival would play a crucial role in strengthening Tripura’s agricultural economy and enhancing the global reputation of its horticultural products. He emphasized that the state government is committed to positioning the ‘Queen’ pineapple as a premium export brand and ensuring better market access for growers.
“The objective is to expand export opportunities, create stronger market linkages and secure better returns for our farmers. The festival will help establish Tripura’s ‘Queen’ pineapple as a globally recognised product,” Nath said.
