Amra Bangali Seeks HC Judge-Led Probe into Shantiniketan Medical College Death Case

Pressing for a judicial inquiry commission headed by a sitting High Court judge to probe the death of Manisha Das at Shantiniketan Medical College hostel, the Amra Bangali party submitted a six-point memorandum to the West Tripura District Magistrate on Thursday, also flagging concerns over crimes against women, unemployment, drugs, and rising prices.
A delegation of the party called on the District Magistrate and placed the memorandum before him. While addressing the media party's state chief Gouranga Rudra Pal said, "the unnatural death of Manisha Das on June 10 in the hostel of Shantiniketan Medical College and the alleged gang rape of a Class 9 girl on June 12 in the Atharobhola Darkathang area of Udaipur sub-division have created deep concern among the people of the state."
He also demanded that a judicial inquiry commission be set up under a sitting High Court judge to "uncover the truth and ensure exemplary punishment for the guilty" in the Manisha Das case. It also called for a special task force for crimes against women "irrespective of political identity" and legal amendments for fast-track trials.
Among its other demands, the party sought a complete ban on the production, marketing, and sale of drugs; control over black marketing and the price rise of daily essentials including petrol, diesel, cooking gas, medicines, and edible oil; block-level industrial development to address unemployment; and withdrawal of the increased tax on vacant land in expanded municipal corporation areas.
The party expressed hope that "the administration will take the necessary steps in the interest of the common people."
