A 3.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Morigaon district in Assam early this morning at 08:49 IST, with tremors felt across the region.
The quake, recorded at a depth of 25 kilometres, originated at coordinates 26.407°N latitude and 92.364°E longitude, according to the National Center for Seismology. No injuries or structural damage have been reported so far.
Assam, located in Seismic Zone V, remains one of India's most earthquake-prone regions. The state recently experienced a stronger 5.1-magnitude tremor in Morigaon on January 4, 2026, which caused minor injuries and damage to a few structures.
