Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Évian, France, on Tuesday for a two-day visit to participate in the G7 Summit. Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister said he looked forward to engaging with world leaders and exchanging views on key global issues, reaffirming India’s commitment to advancing collective efforts for a sustainable and prosperous future.
Earlier, PM Modi landed in Geneva, Switzerland, where he was received by Swiss President Guy Parmelin. The two leaders exchanged greetings and reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties before the Prime Minister proceeded to Évian, located about 45 kilometres from Geneva.
This marks PM Modi’s seventh consecutive participation in the G7 Summit and India’s 13th appearance at the forum. India’s continued presence underscores its growing role in addressing global challenges and contributing to international efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, sustainable development, and economic growth. The Prime Minister is also expected to highlight the concerns and priorities of the Global South during the summit discussions.
French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to formally welcome PM Modi later in the day. The Prime Minister will then take part in a high-level working session titled “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity,” alongside leaders of G7 nations, partner countries, and representatives from the World Bank and the African Development Bank.
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He will also attend a gala dinner hosted by President Macron.
A key highlight of the visit will be PM Modi’s meeting with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday. The two leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors and exchange views on important regional and global developments.
