Govt Assures Adequate Fuel, Fertilizer Stocks Amid West Asia Developments

The government on Monday assured that the country has sufficient stocks of petrol, diesel, LPG, and fertilizers, with all refineries operating at high capacity amid recent developments in West Asia.
Addressing an inter-ministerial briefing in New Delhi, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Sujata Sharma said that refineries are maintaining adequate crude oil inventories and sufficient fuel stocks. Over the past four days, 1.84 crore LPG cylinders were delivered across the country, while 24,184 tonnes of commercial LPG were sold. She added that around 2.18 lakh 500-kg LPG cylinders were sold during the period, including nearly 14,000 distributed through special camps.
To prevent hoarding and ensure smooth supplies, the government has temporarily restricted institutional, industrial, and commercial consumers from purchasing petrol and diesel from retail outlets, directing them instead to source fuel from their own consumer pumps. Retail fuel stations have also been instructed to limit the sale of High-Speed Diesel to 200 litres per customer per day following reports of unusually high sales that had affected supplies at some outlets.
Joint Secretary in the Department of Fertilizers Bandana Preyashi said that fertilizer stocks remain normal across the country. For the Kharif 2026 season, the fertilizer requirement has been reassessed at 383.9 lakh metric tonnes. Farmers have already purchased 102.78 lakh metric tonnes of chemical fertilizers, accounting for nearly 37 percent of the total seasonal requirement.
Meanwhile, Director in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Opesh Kumar Sharma said that the LNG carrier DISHA, carrying 62,370 metric tonnes of cargo, has safely transited the Strait of Hormuz and is expected to reach Dahej Port in Gujarat on Thursday. He said the Directorate General of Shipping is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with stakeholders. The government has also facilitated the safe repatriation of more than 3,587 Indian seafarers from various locations across the Gulf region, including 50 in the last 96 hours.
The government reiterated that essential supplies and logistics networks remain stable and that proactive measures are being taken to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel, fertilizers, and energy imports.
