A 22-year-old Girl employed at Shantiniketan Medical College was found dead in a room of the college’s girls’ hostel late Wednesday night, prompting allegations of foul play from her family.
The deceased has been identified as Manisha Das, a resident of Kathaltali Madhuban under Amtali police station. According to police and college officials, her body was discovered hanging inside a hostel room under mysterious circumstances.
Manisha’s family have rejected the possibility of suicide and alleged she was murdered. Her mother told reporters that Manisha was often compelled to stay at the institution overnight. The family also claimed she may have learned about certain confidential matters that could be linked to her death and demanded a thorough investigation.
The college principal said Manisha had previously worked as a caretaker and was currently employed as an assistant in the Examination Cell. Following the discovery, Amtali police and a forensic team visited the scene. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have launched an investigation and said the circumstances remain unclear pending the post-mortem and forensic findings.
