Chabimura set for major tourism boost as project nears completion

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday visited the iconic Chabimura tourist destination in Gomati district to review the progress of the ongoing tourism infrastructure development project and directed officials to ensure its completion by October this year.
Known for its breathtaking natural beauty and ancient rock carvings along the Gomati River, Chabimura is often referred to as the "Amazon of Tripura" or the "Amazon of Northeast India." The state government is undertaking a major initiative to transform the destination into a world-class tourist attraction and attract a larger number of domestic and international visitors.
During the visit, the minister conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing works and reviewed the pace and quality of construction. He instructed the executing agencies and concerned officials to maintain the highest standards of quality while ensuring that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The development project aims to enhance tourism facilities and improve visitor experience at Chabimura through upgraded infrastructure and better amenities. The foundation stone and groundbreaking ceremony for the project have already been completed, and work is progressing steadily.
Following the inspection, the minister held a review meeting with officials and stakeholders to discuss measures for making Chabimura more tourist-friendly and improving service delivery for visitors. The meeting focused on strengthening tourism management, enhancing facilities, and ensuring sustainable development of the destination.
Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Executive Member C.K. Jamatia, MLA Ranjit Das, Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma, Tourism Director Prashanta Badal Negi, along with senior officials of the Tourism Department, district administration representatives, and local leaders were present.
The minister expressed confidence that the project would significantly boost tourism in the state and further establish Chabimura as one of Tripura's premier eco-tourism destinations. He said the government is committed to developing the site while preserving its unique natural and cultural heritage.
Once completed, the upgraded facilities are expected to improve accessibility, visitor comfort, and overall tourism experience, thereby contributing to local economic development and employment generation in the region.
