Cabinet Hails PM Modi as Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday passed a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in consecutive terms. With 4,399 days of continuous service, Mr. Modi has surpassed the previous record of 4,398 days held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the government adopted a seven-point resolution to mark what it described as a historic milestone in Mr. Modi’s service to the nation. The resolution outlines key achievements and reiterates the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
According to the resolution, welfare of the poor has remained central to governance. It noted that over 80 crore citizens are receiving free foodgrains and more than 60 crore beneficiaries have access to free medical treatment. Large-scale initiatives to provide pucca houses, electricity, clean drinking water and direct benefit transfers were also highlighted. The government stated that these measures have helped more than 25 crore people move out of poverty and strengthened national self-confidence.
The resolution emphasised youth empowerment, noting that India has emerged as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem and achieved significant scientific milestones, including the Chandrayaan mission. It also underlined women-led development through initiatives such as smoke-free kitchens, the Lakhpati Didi campaign and legislation providing 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies.
Farmers were recognised as a key pillar of a “Viksit Bharat”, with mention of schemes such as PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and the extension of Kisan Credit Cards to livestock rearers and fishermen. The resolution said agricultural exports have crossed ₹5 lakh crore. It further credited programmes like Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat with strengthening manufacturing across sectors, including defence and artificial intelligence.
Separately, the Cabinet approved Phase 2(A) of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, covering the Koteshwar Road to Airport corridor. The 6-kilometre stretch will include five stations and is expected to expand the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro network to about 78 kilometres upon completion.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs also cleared two major Central Government infrastructure projects in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, including office and residential accommodation. The projects are expected to generate substantial employment opportunities for skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers.
