Over 30 Killed, 200 Injured in PoJK Clashes Amid Protests and Blackout

More than 30 people have been killed and around 200 others injured in violent clashes between protesters and security forces in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), according to reports from the region.
Tensions escalated after authorities banned the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), a prominent civil society alliance that has been leading protests over economic hardships and political grievances. The ban triggered widespread demonstrations, which turned violent in several areas.
A communications blackout was imposed following deadly clashes in Rawalakot and Muzaffarabad. Internet and mobile services were reportedly suspended as authorities attempted to control the unrest. A shutter-down strike continues across the region, with protests spreading to cities including Bhimber and Kotli.
The latest wave of violence comes after Sunday night’s clashes reportedly left seven civilians dead. The overall situation remains tense, with hundreds of protesters taking to the streets amid growing anger over the crackdown.
The developments have also drawn international attention. More than 50 members of the Parliament of the United Kingdom have written to UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, expressing concern over reports of arrests, communication restrictions, and escalating unrest in the region. The parliamentarians said they had been contacted by British Kashmiris who were unable to reach relatives due to the reported blackout and warned that such measures could further inflame tensions in an already sensitive political climate.
