President Murmu, VP Radhakrishnan, PM Modi Congratulate Indian Women’s Football Team on SAFF 2026 Win


President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian Women’s Football Team for winning the SAFF Championship 2026, securing a record sixth title.

India defeated defending champions Bangladesh 3–1 in the final held at Madgaon in Goa. With this victory, India extended their dominance in the regional tournament and reaffirmed their status as one of South Asia’s strongest women’s football teams.

In a social media post, President Murmu praised the team for displaying exceptional skill, determination and teamwork throughout the tournament. She expressed confidence that the achievement would inspire young girls across the country to pursue their dreams with courage and confidence.

Vice President Radhakrishnan described the triumph as a proud moment for the nation, saying it reflects the growing strength of women’s football in India and will motivate aspiring athletes nationwide.

Prime Minister Modi commended the team’s outstanding performance and said the victory would encourage more youngsters to take up football in the years to come. He conveyed his best wishes to the players for their future endeavours.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya also congratulated the team, calling the win a proud moment for Indian football.
