Assam Cabinet Approves State Capital Region for Dibrugarh

The Assam Cabinet on Friday approved a series of significant decisions aimed at boosting infrastructure development, enhancing employee welfare, and strengthening local governance across the state.
Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the formation of a State Capital Region in Dibrugarh as part of a broader plan to develop the town as Assam’s second capital.
To ensure planned and sustainable urban growth, the Cabinet approved the creation of the State Capital Region Area – Dibrugarh along with a dedicated State Capital Region Development Authority – Dibrugarh. The newly formed authority will be responsible for overseeing infrastructure expansion, urban planning, and coordinated development in and around the region.
The Chief Minister stated that the MLA of Dibrugarh will serve as the ex-officio Chairman of the Development Authority and will be accorded Cabinet rank. The move is intended to streamline decision-making and accelerate developmental initiatives in the region.
