Minister for Scheduled Caste (SC) Welfare, Fisheries, and Animal Resources Development, Sudhangshu Das on Monday inaugurated the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Vaccination Programme at Dighalia Gram Panchayat under Bamutia RD Block, marking a significant step toward safeguarding Tripura's livestock and strengthening rural livelihoods.
The minister emphasized that the initiative will protect cattle and buffaloes from FMD—a highly contagious viral disease—while improving animal health and ensuring stable income for farmers and livestock rearers across the state.
"This vaccination drive is not just about disease control; it is about empowering our farming communities and securing their economic future," Sudhangshu Das said during the launch event.
The programme, part of the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), will provide bi-annual free vaccination using a trivalent vaccine covering serotypes O, A, and Asia 1. The government aims to eliminate FMD by 2030 through sustained vaccination coverage of all eligible livestock.
