Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing in New Delhi on Monday, aimed at further strengthening the longstanding historical, cultural, and civilizational ties between the two countries.
The discussions covered a wide range of issues, including security cooperation, connectivity, trade, and other key areas of bilateral engagement. Both sides reviewed the overall relationship and explored ways to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.
President Min Aung Hlaing arrived in India on Saturday for a five-day official visit. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising cabinet ministers, senior government officials, and business leaders. This marks his first visit to India in his current capacity.
During his visit, the Myanmar President is scheduled to travel to Mumbai for business and industry interactions, as well as site visits. He will also meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan later today.
In addition, President Hlaing will visit the “Light and the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One” exhibition at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex in New Delhi. The exhibition features the sacred Piprahwa Relics associated with Gautama Buddha, along with other significant antiquities.
Myanmar occupies a key position in India’s “Neighbourhood First,” “Act East,” and “MAHASAGAR” policies. The visit is expected to further strengthen the multifaceted partnership between the two neighbouring countries and enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
