India Emerges as Technology Leader, Says Jitendra Singh

Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh on Saturday said that India has transitioned from being a technology follower to a technology leader over the past 12 years of technological transformation.
Speaking about the country's growing role in innovation, Dr. Singh said India is now actively contributing to the development of frontier technologies and helping shape the future of global technological advancement. He highlighted significant progress in sectors such as space, nuclear energy, quantum technologies, biotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), and clean energy.
The minister noted that these sectors are laying the scientific and technological foundation for achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Emphasizing the growing importance of AI, Dr. Singh described it as a transformative force across governance, healthcare, agriculture, communications, scientific research, and public service delivery. He said India is adopting a balanced approach that combines human expertise with AI-enabled systems to enhance efficiency, drive innovation, and improve citizen-centric governance.
Dr. Singh also pointed to the rapid growth of India's space sector, stating that the country's space economy, currently valued at around USD 9 billion, is expected to expand significantly in the coming years.
He said India's advancements in emerging technologies reflect its rising stature on the global stage and its commitment to becoming a leading innovation-driven nation.
