From Loans to Livelihoods: PM SVANidhi Marks Six Years of Impact

Highlighting the success of the Centre’s flagship PM SVANidhi scheme, Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said the initiative has significantly improved the socio-economic condition of street vendors by providing them access to formal credit, digital financial services, and social security benefits.
Addressing the 6th anniversary celebration of PM SVANidhi in Agartala, the Minister described the scheme as a landmark intervention that has empowered millions of small vendors across the country. He said the programme has evolved beyond a simple loan facility and has become a catalyst for self-employment, self-reliance, and dignity among beneficiaries.
“PM SVANidhi has opened new opportunities for street vendors by integrating them into the formal financial system and encouraging digital transactions,” he said, adding that the scheme has strengthened the foundation of inclusive urban development.
During the programme, Manohar Lal felicitated several beneficiaries who have successfully expanded their businesses and embraced digital payment systems. He praised their determination and entrepreneurial spirit, noting that their success stories reflect the positive impact of the government's efforts to uplift the informal sector.
The Minister further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PM SVANidhi scheme has emerged as a powerful tool for economic empowerment, helping street vendors secure sustainable livelihoods while contributing to the growth of urban economies.
The event brought together officials from various government departments, urban local bodies, and a large number of beneficiaries. The celebration marked six years of PM SVANidhi's implementation and underscored the government's continued focus on strengthening support for the country's street vending community.
