India Rise to Second with Eight Medals at Asian U-20 Championships

India continued its impressive run at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, climbing to second place in the medal standings with a total of eight medals — four gold, two silver, and two bronze.
The Indian contingent delivered a strong performance on the second day of competition, securing seven medals, including four golds. The standout achievement came from 19-year-old Pooja Singh, who won the women’s high jump with a clearance of 1.93 metres. Her effort broke the 14-year-old Indian senior national record of 1.92 metres set by Sahana Kumari in 2012.
India’s other gold medals were won by Nitin Gupta in the men’s 5,000-metre race walk, Amanat Kamboj in the women’s discus throw, and Rahul Jakhar in the men’s decathlon.
Sadhana Devi claimed silver in the women’s triple jump, while Upkar secured silver in the men’s decathlon. Neeru Pathak added a bronze medal in the women’s 400 metres.
India had opened its medal account on the opening day of the championships when Nipam won bronze in the women’s 100 metres.
A 48-member Indian team, comprising 30 men and 18 women, is competing at the continental event, which concludes on Sunday. India currently trails only China in the overall medal standings.
