Sindhu, Lakshya Storm into Singapore Open Quarterfinals

PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen advanced to the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open with impressive performances on Thursday, while HS Prannoy crashed out after a tough three-game battle.
Double Olympic medallist Sindhu cruised past Japan’s Riko Gunji 21-9, 21-12 in just 37 minutes in the women’s singles second round. She will next face top seed and Olympic champion An Se-young in the last-eight stage.
Lakshya Sen secured his place in the quarterfinals after Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn retired due to a back injury shortly after the match began. The Indian shuttler will now take on Japan’s Koki Watanabe.
In men’s doubles, the Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also entered the quarterfinals and will next face Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai.
India’s mixed doubles duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto too progressed to the quarterfinals.
However, Prannoy’s campaign ended after a hard-fought 18-21, 21-16, 15-21 defeat to Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in a 61-minute contest.
