Tripura’s Queen Pineapple set for global push under Rs 236 Cr mission

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia and Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday formally launched the ambitious “Mission Queen Pineapple, Tripura” from New Delhi, aiming to transform the state’s famed GI-tagged Queen Pineapple into a globally recognized brand.
The Rs 236 crore mission, launched under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER)’s USP initiative, seeks to create a complete farm-to-global-market ecosystem covering cultivation, cold chain infrastructure, processing, branding, bio-economy, and exports. The project has set a target of nearly six-fold growth in the sector, with plans to expand Tripura’s pineapple economy from the present Rs 35 crore to nearly Rs 200 crore by 2028.
Following the launch, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared a post on his social media platform, describing Tripura Queen Pineapple as the state’s “glorious” fruit that is “set to rule the world.” He stated that the mission would build a comprehensive value chain around the region’s finest agricultural products while ensuring that the benefits directly reach farmers and local communities.
Scindia further noted that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a transformed Northeast under the Act East Policy and would open new avenues for economic growth and exports from the region.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, in a statement shared on his social media handle, termed the project a “transformative three-year initiative” for the state’s agricultural economy. Joining the virtual launch from Sanchar Bhawan in New Delhi alongside Union Minister Scindia and Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, the Chief Minister said the mission would strengthen processing infrastructure, establish robust market linkages, and elevate Tripura’s state fruit to the international stage.
Dr. Saha also expressed confidence that the initiative would help minimise yield gaps, expand export opportunities, accelerate rural economic growth, and significantly enhance farmers’ income across the state. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continued support and leadership in promoting the development of the Northeast.
