Tripura introduces 5-day work week for Govt. offices

The Tripura government has decided to keep all government offices closed on Saturdays and Sundays from now on, introducing a five-day work week for state government employees. To compensate for the reduced working days, office timings on weekdays have been extended.
Minister Sushanta Chowdhury held a press conference here at the Secretariat conference hall on Monday to brief about various decisions taken in the state cabinet meeting.
According to the Minister, government offices will now function from 9:30 AM instead of 10:00 AM and continue till 6:00 PM instead of 5:30 PM from Monday to Friday.
The Minister also announced that the roster system recently introduced for Group C and Group D employees has been withdrawn with immediate effect. As a result, all government employees will now have to attend office regularly every working day.
Highlighting recruitment-related decisions, the Minister said that the cabinet has approved filling up 81 vacant posts across three departments.
Among them, 50 posts will be filled in the Information and Cultural Affairs Department. The vacancies include 13 Reporter posts, 24 Lower Division Clerk (LDC) posts, 7 Cultural Assistant posts, 2 Folk Artist posts, and one post each for Script Writer, Translator, Assistant Photographer, and Assistant Librarian.
In the Public Works Department, 26 LDC posts will be filled, of which 23 will be recruited through the Joint Recruitment Board, Tripura (JRBT), while the remaining 3 posts will be reserved for ex-servicemen.
Additionally, five Inspector of Small Savings posts under the Finance Department will be filled through the Tripura Public Service Commission, the Minister informed.
Speaking further, Sushanta Chowdhury said that considering the recent situation in the Middle East and following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for expenditure control measures, the state government has already initiated several austerity steps.
These include holding government meetings virtually, increasing the use of electric and CNG vehicles, reducing the use of official vehicles at the administrative level, and avoiding large-scale political gatherings. Necessary instructions have already been issued to all government departments for implementation of these measures, he added.
