Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul reviews RDSS progress, electricity services in West Tripura

Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly and Surjyamaninagar MLA, Ram Prasad Paul, today chaired a review meeting of the West Tripura District Electricity Committee organized by the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) in Agartala. The meeting focused on the progress of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), the ongoing development of electricity services, and the implementation of smart‑meter‑based electricity management across the district.

Ram Prasad Paul underlined the importance of the RDSS project in strengthening Tripura’s power distribution network, reducing technical losses, and ensuring reliable 24‑hour power supply to consumers. He called for accelerated execution of pending works, including feeder modernization, sub‑station upgrades, and smart‑meter installation, while stressing tight coordination between TSECL, contractors, and local bodies.

Officials informed the Deputy Speaker that under RDSS, thousands of smart meters have already been installed in West Tripura, enabling real‑time monitoring, accurate billing, and faster restoration of supply during faults. The meeting also discussed public grievances related to billing disputes, meter‑reading delays, and service interruptions, with Paul directing TSECL to resolve consumer complaints promptly and ensure greater transparency in its operations.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to a modern, efficient power sector, Ram Prasad Paul urged residents to cooperate with the smart‑meter rollout and use official channels for redressal. He said that only through collective accountability and technological intervention can Tripura achieve truly “smart” and consumer‑friendly electricity management.
