India and Italy have reaffirmed their commitment to further developing the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor to strengthen trade, investment, and supply-chain resilience across regions.
In a joint statement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described IMEC as a transformative initiative with the potential to reshape global trade, connectivity, and economic prosperity.
The two leaders welcomed the progress made in preliminary discussions on the corridor and called for concrete outcomes during the first IMEC Ministerial Meeting scheduled for 2026.
Addressing a joint press conference in Rome, Ms. Meloni said the corridor linking Europe, the Middle East, and India could play a major role in enhancing regional connectivity and boosting economic cooperation. She added that both countries strongly support the project’s development.
The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in innovation, science, and technology. Prime Minister Modi noted that Italy is globally recognised for design and precision, while India is known for its scale, talent, and affordable innovation.
