CM Dr Manik Saha announces major healthcare initiatives in state

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday said that the present state government has laid special emphasis on improving the quality and expanding the reach of healthcare services across Tripura, resulting in nearly an 80 percent reduction in the number of referral patients sent outside the state for treatment.
The Chief Minister was addressing the inauguration ceremony of International Nurses Day celebrations organised by the Health Department at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.
Paying tribute to Florence Nightingale, he described her as a true humanitarian whose dedication to serving mankind elevated the nursing profession to great heights. He said her ideals and service continue to inspire generations across the world.
Highlighting the state government’s future healthcare plans, the Chief Minister announced that initiatives have already been taken to establish a Medical University in Tripura to strengthen medical education and healthcare delivery. He further stated that more super-speciality hospitals would be set up in the state, while a new medical college would be established in the ADC area. Besides, a dedicated eye hospital is also planned to ensure that people do not have to travel outside the state for advanced treatment.
Emphasising the role of nurses in healthcare services, Dr. Saha said that medical services cannot function effectively without nurses and healthcare workers. He remarked that the nursing uniform symbolises dignity, responsibility and commitment towards society.
He also encouraged nurses to continue learning and taking up professional challenges to enhance their experience and efficiency in patient care. According to him, greater skill and dedication among healthcare workers help build stronger public confidence in the healthcare system.
Referring to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Chief Minister praised doctors and nurses for working like frontline warriors during the crisis. He added that while nurses play a crucial role in helping patients recover, they must also remain conscious about their own health and wellbeing.
The Chief Minister further informed that the scope of nursing education in the state has expanded considerably in recent years. To strengthen healthcare infrastructure, the government has already recruited 153 nursing staff and plans to recruit another 100 in the near future.
