US and Iran Exchange Strikes in Gulf amid Rising Tensions Over Strait of Hormuz

The United States and Iran have reportedly carried out fresh military strikes in the Gulf region, further escalating tensions over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global energy shipments.
According to reports, missiles and drones were launched following a new US initiative, described as “Project Freedom,” which allegedly aims to assist commercial vessels navigating the strait. The waterway has reportedly been severely disrupted since the escalation of hostilities.
The confrontation, said to have begun earlier this year between a US–Israel alignment and Iran, has resulted in significant casualties across the region. Recent claims suggest that US strikes on cargo vessels led to civilian deaths, while American forces also reportedly destroyed several Iranian military boats. In response, Iranian missile attacks allegedly struck an oil port in the United Arab Emirates, where a major US military presence is located.
The US Navy is also reported to have enforced a maritime blockade on Iran, a move Tehran has condemned as an act of war.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that the situation demonstrates the absence of a military solution and emphasized that diplomatic talks are still ongoing. However, he warned the United States and regional allies against further escalation.
Meanwhile, US officials claimed that two American merchant vessels successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz under naval escort, a claim denied by Iranian authorities.
A temporary ceasefire reportedly took effect last month, followed by negotiations between US and Iranian representatives in Islamabad. However, those talks ended without a breakthrough. The situation remains highly volatile as tensions continue to rise in one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.
