JP Nadda Appointed Central Observer for Assam BJP Legislative Party Leader Selection

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed its national president Jagat Prakash Nadda as the Central Observer for the election of the Leader of the Legislative Party in Assam following the party’s strong performance in the 2026 Assembly elections.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has been named as the Central Co-Observer to assist in overseeing the process.
According to party sources, the appointments were approved by the BJP Parliamentary Board as part of its standard procedure for selecting legislative leaders in states where the party has secured a mandate to form the government. The process will involve a meeting of newly elected BJP MLAs in Assam, who will choose their legislative party leader under the supervision of the central observers.
The development comes after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a decisive mandate in Assam, clearing the path for a third consecutive term in the state.
