The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance is poised to retain power in Assam for a third consecutive term, according to early trends from the ongoing counting of votes for all 126 assembly seats. The counting process is progressing smoothly, with trends available across all constituencies.
As per the latest figures, the BJP is leading in 79 seats, while its allies—the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF)—are ahead in 9 and 10 seats respectively. The Congress is leading in 24 seats, with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Raijor Dal leading in two seats each.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is on course to retain the Jalukbari constituency for a sixth consecutive term, maintaining a lead of over 7,000 votes against his Congress rival Bidisha Neog. Meanwhile, Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi is trailing behind BJP candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami in the Jorhat constituency.
Several ministers in the outgoing BJP-led government are currently leading in their respective constituencies. AGP president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora is ahead in Bokakhat, while BJP leader Chandra Mohan Patowary is leading in Tihu. Other prominent leaders, including Keshab Mahanta, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Ajanta Neog, Pijush Hazarika, Ashok Singhal, and Ranoj Pegu, are also maintaining comfortable leads.
The election, held on April 9 in a single phase, recorded a high voter turnout of 85.96 percent—the highest in the state’s history.
