Agartala, May 1: The 2570th Buddha Jayanti was celebrated with due reverence and spiritual solemnity at Benuban Buddhist Monastery in Agartala on Friday. The occasion of Buddha Purnima, which marks the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana of Gautama Buddha, witnessed a large gathering of Buddhist devotees at the monastery premises. Devotees began assembling at the monastery from early morning. The day’s programme commenced with auspicious prayers and the recitation of Panchsheel, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
Monks of the monastery led special congregational prayers, seeking peace and harmony across the world. Throughout the day, devotees offered flowers at the statue of Lord Buddha, lit lamps, and performed incense rituals as a mark of respect and devotion. A special religious assembly was also organised at the monastery, where members of the monastic community discussed the relevance of Buddha’s teachings in the present times. They emphasized the need to overcome unrest and work towards maintaining global peace and communal harmony.
People from different communities, irrespective of caste, creed, and religion, took part in the celebrations, reflecting a strong message of unity and brotherhood. In the evening, the monastery premises were illuminated with hundreds of lamps, creating a serene and spiritual ambiance. Arrangements were also made for the distribution of prasad among the devotees. According to the monastery authorities, the main objective of the celebration is to spread the message of peace, compassion, and universal brotherhood as taught by Lord Buddha.
