Mizoram Schools Shut for Second Day Amid Heavy Rains

Schools in Mizoram's Aizawl, Serchhip, and Lunglei districts remained closed for a second consecutive day today due to relentless heavy rain and strong winds disrupting normal life. Authorities in Aizawl, Serchhip, Lunglei, Hnahthial, and Lawngtlai districts ordered the closures as a precaution against landslides, flash floods, and other weather-related hazards.

Persistent downpours have heightened risks of mudflows and rockfalls, with torrential rainfall since Monday damaging over 70 houses, schools, church halls, and government buildings—no casualties reported so far. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded significant rainfall across districts and forecasts continued heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds up to 60 km/h through Friday.
