Red Alert in Tripura as Severe Thunderstorms, Heavy Rainfall Forecast

A red alert has been issued for parts of Tripura as severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected to lash the state over the next two days. The Meteorological Centre in Agartala has warned that weather conditions may further deteriorate, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain cautious.
According to official forecasts, Khowai and West Tripura districts will remain under red alert from April 28 to April 29. These areas are likely to witness intense thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching 60–80 kmph, and heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 20 cm.
The remaining districts have been placed under an orange alert for the same period. Thunderstorms with lightning, wind speeds of 50–60 kmph, and heavy rainfall at isolated locations are expected across these regions.
The adverse weather is likely to continue during April 29–30, with an orange alert covering all districts of the state. North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai and West Tripura districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while other areas may record precipitation between 7 cm and 11 cm.
Authorities have advised people to avoid open areas during lightning, stay indoors during strong winds, and follow official weather updates. Disaster management teams and local administration are also on alert to respond to any emergency situation.
